Event description
Join us for an insightful and action-oriented webinar focused on the pivotal role of sustainable practices in outdoor recreation participation and management to combat climate change. As part of the broader ORN Action Plan (2022-2025), this event will emphasise the responsibility of all organisations to reach net-zero targets and explore how the outdoor recreation sector can contribute to this goal.
The webinar will feature presentations by leading organisations in this area: Forestry England, Sport England, and the Lake District National Park Authority. These trailblazers will showcase their pioneering efforts towards achieving net-zero emissions. Each organisation will share their innovative strategies and practical solutions, highlighting how they are reducing carbon footprints and promoting environmentally friendly outdoor recreation.
Speakers include:
- Graham Waddell MIEMA CEnv – Head of Sustainability at Forestry England
- Denise Ludlam – Environmental Sustainability Strategic Lead at Sport England
- Emma Moody – Lead Strategy Adviser, Recreation and Sustainable Transport at the Lake District National Park Authority
Dr Denise Ludlam, Environmental Sustainability Strategic Lead, Sport England
Dr Denise Ludlam has spent many years working in the environmental sustainability sector. She started her professional career in agroecology research. Denise then spent several years working for national parks in the UK and in central and eastern Europe before moving to environmental work in the charity sector. Much of the focus of her work has been on education and training; sharing experiences in, and communicating about, the importance and value of our natural environment, whether this be a protected landscape or an urban nature reserve. Further work specialised on sustainable travel and transport.
After a ten-year stint as a primary school teacher, leading on science and Forest Schools, Denise stepped back into the sustainability sector. She spent several years working for Derbyshire County Council on strategies and projects to improve the environmental performance of the Council and of the county.
Denise joined Sport England in May 2023 to promote environmental sustainability initiatives within the organisation and to work with partners to improve the environmental performance of the sport and physical activity sector.
When not working, Denise can be found walking in the hills or in her garden.
There will be an interactive Q&A session, providing an opportunity for attendees to engage directly with our expert speakers. This session aims to deepen understanding and facilitate the exchange of ideas on sustainable practices. Attendees can ask questions, share their experiences, and discuss challenges and opportunities in implementing sustainable initiatives.
