The Outdoor Recreation Network (ORN) was delighted to host a special online webinar bringing together two important moments for the Network:
– The second round of the ORN Success Awards, celebrating excellence and innovation across the outdoor recreation sector
– The official announcement of ORN’s new Co-Chair, following a highly successful recruitment process
The online awards ceremony celebrated trailblazing projects and organisations tackling key challenges in outdoor recreation, aligned with the priorities set out in the ORN Action Plan. The Awards recognised practical and impactful work delivered across the Network, particularly in the face of financial, environmental and capacity pressures. The categories awarded were:
– Best Example of Maximising Impact with Limited Resources: Celebrating organisations or projects achieving exceptional outcomes despite limited funding, staffing or capacity.
– Best Project for Protecting Nature & Responsible Access: Recognising initiatives that successfully balance outdoor recreation with environmental protection, nature recovery and responsible access.
– Outstanding Contribution from a Small Organisation: Highlighting the vital role of small organisations delivering disproportionate impact through innovation, commitment and local leadership.
The webinar also marked an important milestone for ORN with the announcement of the Network’s newly appointed Co-Chair. Following a strong recruitment campaign and a competitive interview process, ORN announced the successful candidate who will take over from Pippa Langford, supporting the strategic leadership of the Network.
Attendees also took part in a Q&A session with the new Co-Chair, providing an opportunity to hear directly about their background, motivations and priorities for the coming years.
The event brought together ORN members and partners, public sector bodies, NGOs, community organisations, funders and policymakers, alongside others interested in leadership, best practice and impact in outdoor recreation.
Overall, the webinar provided an opportunity to celebrate success, recognise leadership and look ahead, showcasing the people and projects shaping the future of outdoor recreation.
