ORN was delighted to welcome over 55 delegates last week to the ‘Planning the Future’ workshop in the spectacular setting of Leigh Court in Bristol. This event is the cornerstone to developing ORN’s next Action Plan and the insights you shared on key priorities will undoubtedly help propel us into a vibrant future.

We hope that those who attended enjoyed networking with others across the sector and the opportunity to share priorities and updates from your organisation. Read on for our full reflection on this event.

Member updates

Thank you to all those who joined the event early for the networking social event. It was a fantastic evening for networking and listening to the updates from member organisations on current work including new projects, partnerships and appointments, and the latest developments in policy and strategies. If you could not attend this event but would like to share an update with fellow members please email jayne@outdoorrecreation.org.uk and we can include this in the next ORN updates email.

Active Travel

Many workshop participants travelled to Bristol by train and bus and took part in the active travel walk to the venue from Clifton Village through Leigh Woods. What a fantastic way to start the workshop and get our neurons firing!

The ORN was able to encourage car sharing and provide shared taxis to Clifton Village, the airport, bus station and train station post conference significantly reducing the number of cars at this event. Over half of those in attendance availed of this opportunity. A special thanks to those who offered to car share post event!

Workshops

It was a busy day fitting in six workshops on key themes. A special thank you to our workshop hosts: Anita Kerwin-Nye, Dr Sunita Welch, Taz Hansford, Dr Louise Montgomery, Andy Mackintosh, Jonathan Woods and Adele Masztalerz. Each host was challenged with thinking outside the box when it came to encouraging creative thinking and they certainly rose to that challenge. ORN used a mixture of resources both online and offline to collect this information.

Workshop Graphic Illustration

The Outdoor Recreation Network was delighted to welcome Dr Penelope Mendonça to our workshop who graphically recorded some of the main themes and discussions from this event. We are finalising this wonderful graphic illustration and will share the final version for you to share within your organisation and on social media. Please credit Pen when using.
